In a heartwarming celebration of cultural diversity, international students from around the world came together to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with INCULS on 5th May 2023.
Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the month-long period of fasting and reflection for Muslims. INCULS gathered students from different parts of the world to find ways to connect and share in the joy of the occasion with their peers, teachers, and staff.
The remarkable occasion was held at the Panggung Terbuka of FIB UGM. And for the first time after a while, INCULS organized real-time events to mark the occasion, sharing traditional foods and stories about Eid Mubarak cultural customs. For many, this was their first Eid away from home, and the chance to connect with others from similar backgrounds was especially meaningful.
“I feel so grateful to be part of this occasion, even though we are all so far away from home,” said Waled, a student from Pakistan studying in INCULS. “Celebrating a religious day like this brings back the memory of me and my family gathered on Christmas Eve” said Yuki to other international students.”
The celebrations were not limited to Muslim students, as many non-Muslim students also joined in to learn more about the holiday and show their support for their classmates. The event also provided the students with how to hand-made Ketupat shells, it was challenging yet everyone is engaged. The event also consisted of games which made the day more fun.
As the world continues to grapple with the effects of globalization, this celebration of cultural diversity and unity is a reminder of the power of community to bring people together and overcome adversity. Eid Mubarak to all those who celebrated, and may this spirit of unity and togetherness continue to thrive.
